The Brightlingsea Ramble

Club November Ramble
Sunday 18th November 2018

Our Club Monthly Sunday Rambles commenced on the above Sunday with member David Mason kindly volunteering to be our guide / organiser for the day and selecting  the Brightlingsea Colne river area with the Batemans Tower as our “kick off ” point.

Twenty Club walkers and Alfie! a four legged guest, enjoyed Sunday’s late autumn beautiful weather, sunny with a brisk South Easterly wind, which certainly allowed one to clear any over indulgence of our previous evening’s Club Laying Up dinner. Our route took us along the old Crab & Winkle Line, 1866-1964, run in its early days by the Tendring Hundred Railway. This long closed railway line from Brightlingsea to Wivenhoe takes one along the banks of the Colne river to the Alresford Creek area and was teeming with bird life. Our return leg via the Moverons farm woods was a sea of colour in all its autumn glory, absolutely superb.  On completion of our walk we returned to the Colne Yacht Club at the Brightlingsea harbour side where David had organised Sunday lunch for us. The Colne members made us very welcome with their delightful staff serving a lovely carvery meal much enjoyed by all. Our thanks to them all.

May I once again thank David for a very enjoyable day and trust it’s a precursor for the rest of Club walks this coming season. Roly.

May I remind members that the next walk is our Christmas Ramble, 16th December with details on the Club notice board and website. This is normally a popular event and should you require lunch on completion please contact Tina ASAP. Thank you.
