On the water, but staying dry

Early in 2019 the club’s committee agreed to add model yacht sailing/racing to it’s    list of activities afloat. From the outset it was clear that we needed to adopt a type of model which was one design, easily accessible, suitable to sail on the waters outside the club and available at a relatively low cost.

Following advice from members with previous experience of sailing model yachts the club adopted the “Joysway Dragonflight 95” and contacted Mike Weston at RC Yachts (www.radiosailing.co.uk) who had exhibited the models at various boat shows in the UK and provided a variety of packages, spares etc. by mail order. Mike also agreed to come to the club and hold a demonstration day which took place late in April. As a result, a few members bought models straight away (Mike bought some stock with him) and another member already owned and sailed one regularly.

As yet the project is still in its’ infancy but we are planning to hold regular race days and other events including “come and have a try days” through the winter. If you’d like more information please contact the club office and we’ll put you in touch with somebody who can help.
