Jenkins makes it two from two

There was a good turnout  for Race 2 of the Summer Series on Sunday, but the neapy tide combined with a difficult beat to the starting area meant that a number of dinghies were late for the start.
In Class 2 Sophie Newland in her Laser 4.7 took the race win from Trevor Halls and Tracy Bettany making a welcome return in their Bosun.
In Class 1 all the front runners were jockeying at the start and it was the Phantoms of Martin Jenkins and James Oxley that had the best start with Jenkins just ahead of his rival.
The two Phantoms broke away from the fleet but the Lasers of Dominic Jacobs and John Summerfield were having a good tussle too and drove each other on to keep in contention.
Jenkins managed to hold his narrow lead for the first two legs of the race but Oxley took advantage of a wide rounding by Jenkins to slip through and take the lead at Twizzle Buoy.
With a strong breeze for the beat back up river Jenkins was just able to power over Oxley and regain the lead at Spit turning Mark.
A long run out to Wade gave the fleet a chance to spread out a bit more but the two Phantoms remained closely locked together with Jenkins just keeping ahead.
The order remained the same to the finish, Jenkins finishing exactly one minute ahead of Oxley and the two Lasers chasing some six minutes further back.
After handicaps had been applied Jenkins took the win, Oxley was far enough ahead of Jacobs to take second so Jacobs was third and Summerfield a close fourth.
The next race is on Sunday 7th July
