W&FYC TRAINING PROGRAMME

Cartoon depicting a skipper hit by the boom.

It's to be hoped your first time sailing will not be quite as fraught as this.

Your instructor will explain the use of all those bits of string, and you'll be amazed at just how many names a piece of string can have!

Throughout the year the club offers a variety of instruction courses both practical and theoretical. On the practical side there is usually sailing instruction for youngsters starting out, and of course there are always opportunities for those wishing to get involved with racing, either offshore or dinghies.
While the theoretical side which, usually involves the study of navigation, meteorology, seamanship, the IRPCS, VHF-DSC and passage planning, the latter now being an integral part of SOLAS V.
