Those visiting the Backwaters over recent years will have seen that Stone Point has extended Northwards to a considerable extent and that a shingle bank has developed on the North corner. This is proving increasingly popular with visiting yachtsmen.
W.F.Y.C has managed Stone Point for many years and continues to do so. We welcome all visiting yachtsmen but we must all have regard for the fact that Stone Point is an S.S.S.I. and as such there are many other organisations with a deep-seated interest in the area. In order to be able continue unfettered access, we must all take care not do anything that either disturbs the wildlife or destroys plants and vegetation.
This means that dogs should be kept on leads and fires or barbeques should only be lit below the HW mark and of course, all debris must be removed completely afterwards. Camping is discouraged altogether, except by prior arrangement with W.F.Y.C. The majority of our visitors do respect the area for what it is but we must all take the utmost care to avoid anything that gives the non-boating fraternity any excuse to criticise our own activities, which in turn could lead to limited access for yachtsmen visiting the area in the future.
If your Club is planning a cruise to the Backwaters and intends anchoring at Stone Point in large numbers, it helps to let us know in advance. At times during the Summer the anchorage can become very crowded and some advance planning can help to avoid too many visitors at one time. This only applies to those planning an organised cruise, which could involve a significant number of boats.
